I’m so glad to hear that this owl was able to be saved, but I was concerned about the extra time spent calling Quarry Hill Nature Center. While it’s better than nothing, I don’t believe that Quarry Hill is certified to care for raptors/birds of prey. The Houston County nature center is certified–and they are usually the ones in SE Minnesota called to help with Raptors. I am on their call list as someone in the Rochester area who can assist with owl and raptor captures and transports up to the Raptor Center in the Cities. They will occasionally have training sessions on how to assist them in this process, and then they do occasionally call if they need help capturing or transporting birds. I have received more calls for help than I was able to assist with–we transported one injured hawk for them to the Raptor Center as well as helped get a rehabilitated hawk back to where it would be released (done in a relay fashion…we picked the hawk up in Rochester and transported to Houston where someone else would take it on the next leg of the trip, etc). If people are interested in helping out like this, they should contact the Houston Nature Center.
